The Colombian singer Shakira has dealt with the separation from soccer star Gerard Piqué with her most recent songs.

“My songs are the best therapy. They are more effective than a visit to a psychologist,” said the 46-year-old in an interview with the Mexican television station Televisa that was broadcast on Tuesday night (local time).

Her two most recent songs, “Music Session #53” with Argentine producer Bizarrap and “TQG” with Colombian reggaeton singer Karol G, have been interpreted by many as a reckoning with her ex.

Above all, the collaboration with Bizarrap apparently had a therapeutic effect. “I went into the studio one way and came out another,” Shakira said. “It was a great relief for me and necessary for my own healing.” Her son Milan had the idea of working with the Argentine producer.

“I have to admit, I’ve always been quite emotionally dependent on men,” she said in the interview. “But this story taught me to look at it from a different perspective and to be enough for myself.” After twelve years of relationship, Shakira and Piqué split last year. The pop superstar and the soccer world champion have two children together.

“Strength comes from going through grief and accepting that there are things in life that don’t go the way you want, there are dreams that are shattered, and the need to pick up the pieces to give a life to your children.” To be an example that you can survive,” said the Colombian musician (“Whenever, Wherever”).
