Shakespearetheater wants foyer at Globetheater

In the future, visitors to the Shakespeare Theater in Diever will also be warmly welcomed at the Globe Theater in winter. There will be an outdoor foyer.

“The foyer should roughly have the capacity of the Globe Theater, which is 150 to 180 people,” says chairman Peter Sloot of the Shakespeare Theater.

In addition to the open-air theater (1,000 seats), where a major production is performed every year in the summer, the theater also has a Globe Theater. A covered, wooden theater where performances are held in the cold months.

“In the summer we have the afterparty and the break outside. In the winter we have to go to the Blauwhemel restaurant before and after. This means you are always dependent on others,” says Sloot. With our own reception area on the premises, this dependency is no longer the case.

In addition to receiving visitors to performances, the space can also be used for exhibitions and meetings. Sloot: “But it is not intended for commercial rental.”

Drawings are now available, the next step is to get approval from the municipality of Westerveld. “I think the procedures will be completed next summer, then construction can begin,” said the chairman of the Shakespeare Theater.

Architectural firm VANDERSALM-aim designed the foyer. The design had to fit within the space between the trees on the site. Wooden slats extend from the ground into the roof structure. “All wood connections come together above the round column in the middle of the room,” writes the architectural firm. “The roof itself will be provided with a moss-sedum roof finish”
