Shakespeare theater brings two extra Antony and Cleopatra to the stage

Despite the fact that the ‘real’ performances have yet to start, the play Antony and Cleopatra in the Shakespeare Theater in Diever is almost sold out. The players are still in the middle of the try-out performances, after this weekend it will be stopped for four weeks, to then prepare for the premiere on August 18.

The organization has therefore decided to give two extra performances in September. “The interest is great and in September there was still room for more, so we’re taking that space,” says director Jack Nieborg.

“Every year I am amazed at those huge queues at our theater. It feels like a present every time.” According to the director, those two extra performances are also the max. “There is no more space, moreover, it must also remain fun for the actors and all those volunteers around the theater. Many of those people also have a job, so all those weeks ask quite a bit of them.”

Last year, the Shakespeare Theater in Diever performed The Merchant of Venice. A total of about 25,000 people attended. Jack Nieborg expects to exceed that slightly with the number of visitors this year.
