The world champion of the 100 had been stopped by the police at Seattle airport on July 27 and released the next day, but the news emerged only on August 1st during the trials. But in Tokyo he can compete
The American star of the sprint, Sha’carri Richardson, retired from the national championships in Eugene (Oregon) after on Sunday 27 July she had been arrested at Seattle airport. The world champion of the 100 had been held in prison by the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport police, then released the next day without being specified in his charges. Neither the police nor the Sprinter entourage provided further information on the matter.
Richardson withdrawn

Richardson took part in the trials batteries on Friday and when the news of his arrest emerged announced the retreat from the national championships. The world championship of the 100 had had problems in 2021, when participating in Tokyo’s games had been precluded for the positivity to the metabolite of marijuana found after the trials of that year, but during the championships in Oregon he had seemed serene and in shape, before the news of the arrest and release became public domain: then the decision to retire from the competition. However, Sha’Carri’s choice does not compromise his participation in the World Cup scheduled in September in Tokyo: as a reigning champion, he has the guaranteed place in the world championship event. Currently Richardson is still on the list of Trials participants in the 200, but at this point it is unlikely that the sprinter participates.
