SG Flensburg-Handewitt: Great rumor about Maik Machulla

Since his expulsion from SG Flensburg-Handewitt from the Handball Bundesliga, coach Maik Machulla has been without a club. The 47-year-old is now apparently arousing the desire of a Champions League participant.

As the Danish broadcaster “TV2” reports, Machulla is on the list at Aalborg Håndbold.

The club, where ex-THW Kiel keeper Niklas Landin and superstar Mikkel Hansen are under contract, only announced on Monday that they were separating from coach Stefan Madsen after the season.

“Lately I’ve been thinking about trying something new, a thought that has grown and has now been put into action. Everyone needs new impulses from time to time, the club, the players and in this case me too,” explained Madsen.

According to “TV2”, Aalborg has now put out feelers to Machulla. Managing director Jan Larsen met with the former Flensburg professional last week.

Larsen did not want to comment on the speculation. “Of course I have a piece of paper with names. We actually have an idea of who we would really like and we hope to be able to introduce him in the near future,” said the Aalborg boss.

SG Flensburg-Handewitt provides a handball bang

In April 2023, SG Flensburg-Handewitt parted ways with Maik Machulla, causing a real sensation. The coach had been working as an assistant coach since 2012 and took over as head coach in 2017.

According to the club, the dismissal followed “after an intensive analysis of the team’s sporting development, particularly taking into account the last games and the goals set.”

The North Germans presented Nicolej Krickau as their successor for the 2023/2024 season. The 37-year-old Dane came from GOG Gudme and has signed a three-year contract in Flensburg.
