Sewerage Veenoord will be overhauled in the coming years

The municipality of Emmen will start replacing the outdated sewerage system in Veenoord from next year. From 2023 to 2025, the area between Eikenlaan, Elzenstraat and the railway will be overhauled. In the new new system, rainwater and wastewater are discharged separately.

Next year, the municipality will start with Nieuweweg, Van Hogendorpstraat, Eikenlaan and Rooseveltstraat. The rest will follow in the next two years.

The advantage of a separate sewer system means that streets are less likely to be flooded during heavy rain, according to the municipality. Moreover, this way it is easier to purify water for reuse, says the municipality.

Sounding board group

Since the streets are being broken up due to the work, it is immediately checked whether other things can be taken. A sounding board group is therefore set up for each phase, which can pass on suggestions from residents.

Traffic situations

There is a good chance that residents will see an opportunity to address traffic situations in certain places. Most roads in Veenoord are narrow and suffer from poor maintenance. Fallback options are limited and, moreover, there is a lack of overview at certain points.
