Sevilla FC wins Europa League – 7th title for record champion

Successor to Eintracht Frankfurt

Sevilla FC has won the Europa League. The Spaniards defeated AS Roma on penalties in Budapest on Wednesday night to claim their seventh title in the competition – more than any other club. It was 1-1 after extra time. Rome’s star coach José Mourinho, on the other hand, missed his sixth European Cup trophy and became the sole record holder. The Portuguese continues to share the record with former Bayern Munich coach Giovanni Trapattoni.

Eintracht Frankfurt triumphed in the Europa League last year. This season, Bayer Leverkusen were the last remaining Bundesliga team to fail in the semi-finals against Mourinho and Roma.
