Seville ready to talk in summer?
Central defender Diego Carlos, who is being courted by the nouveau riche Newcastle United, will not move to the Premier League until January 31. FC Sevilla has rejected the latest offer from the “Magpies”, confirmed sporting director Monchi. “Newcastle’s offer was a good offer, a respectable offer. I have to say that,” explained Monchi, quoted by the journalist Mark Douglas.
Newcastle are reported to have offered £30m – the equivalent of €35.9m – for the services of 28-year-old Carlos. The Sevillistas’ veto should remain so during this transfer period, while another attempt at poaching in the summer has better chances. The Brazilian has a €75m release clause in his contract, which runs until 2024.

“Our board and management team believe the offer is not sufficient. It’s true that maybe it wasn’t the right time because it’s a difficult market to find a replacement for a player like Diego Carlos. It’s a market that plays out over a very short period of time. If the offer comes in the summer, the situation may change,” said Monchi.
The manager rejected the fact that Carlos, unlike previously reported, was pushing for a farewell: “I spoke to Diego this morning and he is happy. After all, he’s staying here with his club, who really wanted him. If he was angry he might have changed his mind, but he seems happy.” Monchi described the negotiations with Newcastle as “closed because I don’t think we will negotiate again because we all agree how we think about this transfer”.
