Sixteen dumped guinea pigs were found in the Kralingse Bos in Rotterdam on Monday. The animals are severely emaciated and have many skin infections.
The animals were found by employees of De Kraal petting zoo. They ran loose, near the Prinses Beatrixlaan. The employees then took the guinea pigs with them and took them in.
It is not known who left the animals defenseless in the forest. De Kraal therefore calls on people who have seen something or recognize the animals to report to the animal police. “It is punishable to neglect and dump animals,” emphasizes the petting zoo on Facebook.
The petting zoo has now outsourced the care of the animals. They have been moved to a regional rabbit and rodent shelter. According to an employee of the petting zoo, this always happens when stray animals are found in the forest. “It is not the intention that people think that they can dump their animals here, so that the animals can lead a beautiful life here. Then our petting zoo will become overcrowded. We should not want that. That is why the animals are always moved to a regional shelter. “
