Several Ajax players test positive for corona, duel with Frankfurt canceled | NOW

The friendly match between Ajax and Eintracht Frankfurt will not take place on Saturday afternoon. Within the selection of the Amsterdammers, several players have tested positive for the corona virus.

The infections at Ajax came to light on Friday evening. After contact with Eintracht Frankfurt, it was decided not to take any risks and to cancel the exhibition game. It is not known which Ajax players have tested positive.

The exhibition game with Europa League winner Frankfurt was to start at 3 p.m. and was the end of Ajax’s training camp in Bramberg am Wildkogel, Austria. The team of trainer Alfred Schreuder will fly back to the Netherlands on Saturday, but without the positively tested players.

Ajax only played a practice match against Red Bull Salzburg in Austria. That game was won 3-2 on Tuesday. Earlier this summer, the 36-time national champion practiced against SV Meppen (3-0), SC Paderborn (2-5), NK Lokomotiva Zagreb (3-0) and KAS Eupen (1-1).

The team from Amsterdam will continue the practice campaign on Tuesday with a benefit match against Shakhtar Donetsk. It is not yet known whether that match can continue.

In a week Ajax will already be playing the first serious match of the new season. The national champion then takes on PSV in-house for the Johan Cruijff Scale. On August 6, Ajax will start the new Eredivisie season with an away match against Fortuna Sittard.
