Seventh series winner Maestro: ‘I suspect I’ll put the baton aside after the final’ | Show

Zegers received the most points from the jury during the show, including three tens for his first piece. He also turned out to be by far the viewer’s favorite. Zegers managed to score a total of 172 points and thus secured the so-called ‘golden baton’. In addition to Spigt, Zegers also defeated participants Ammar Bozoglu, Pepijn Lanen, Glodi Lugungu, Roos Moggré and Tjitske Reidinga this season.

“It is so fantastic to be able to participate in something so beautiful. It really is an incredibly great trip,” Zegers responds when he is presented with the golden baton by presenter Frits Sissing. Zegers is grateful that he has been able to meet so many ‘beautiful people’ through the program, he says with a smile on his face while he receives a kiss on the hand from Spigt. “And I am grateful for the music. It is so nice to be able to do so many beautiful things with it.”

In Maestro famous Dutch people will compete with each other in conducting. “Beforehand I thought: I would love to get to the fourth or fifth episode. I wanted to understand what the profession of conducting entails, and I succeeded,” Zegers previously said about his participation. The actor was not the least candidate in any episode and in the semi-final he even received three tens from the jury. “It’s a matter of good preparation and mastering the movement. And stay calm.”

It seems that Zegers has discovered a new talent, but the audience should expect little from him in the field of conducting after Maestro. “I have no illusions that I will now be asked to lead an orchestra. I suspect I’ll put the baton aside after the final.”
