The large international cold case campaign in which attention is drawn to 22 murders of unknown women from the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany has yielded 228 tips in the first week. Seven of these are about the Girl of Teteringen, the police said.
Whether there are useful tips included is still unknown. “We’ve all got to look at that.” On May 10, the police in the three countries started the campaign Operation Identify Me. She hopes to find out who the victims are.
On Christmas Day 1990, the body of a young woman, aged between 15 and 25, was found in the woods near Teteringen. After that it never became clear who she is. It was clear that she had been murdered.
Before her death, she is believed to have been severely neglected and abused. The woman’s body was covered with a green blanket and a large piece of carpet. A red cloth was draped over her head. A neighborhood search at the time indicated that the wrapped body may have been seen as early as December 23. Several people were arrested after the discovery. Yet it is still unknown who the young woman is and under what circumstances she died.
Golden tip
In the Teteringse case, a reward of 15,000 euros has already been offered for the golden tip that leads to the perpetrator or perpetrators.
For the campaign, well-known women shot a collaborative, multilingual video calling on the public to share information about the murdered women. For the Netherlands, these were singer S10 and actress Carice van Houten.
