Seven North Rhine-Westphalian cities want to be one of a maximum of four venues for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
This was announced by the German Football Association (DFB) as co-host of the tournament alongside Belgium and the Netherlands on Monday. Accordingly, applications were submitted to the DFB from the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia, which borders both co-hosts: Aachen, Dortmund, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Gelsenkirchen, Cologne and Mönchengladbach.
The association will now first examine the documents received. The assessment and decision on the currently four planned venues in Germany lies with the DFB Presidium.
However, the German World Cup venues will be announced together with the venues in the other two host countries.
