Seven injured by storm at major French rock festival | show

Seven people were injured on Thursday at Eurockéennes de Belfort, one of the largest French music festivals, after a heavy thunderstorm broke out. The concerts on Thursday evening and Friday were therefore cancelled.

Due to the strong wind and rain, a tent collapsed in front of the entrance to the festival site around 4.30 pm on Thursday, just after the festival had opened its doors. Seven people were injured as a result. One of them was taken to hospital, said the prefect of the Territoire de Belfort, Raphaël Sodini, who came to check on the spot. The storm also caused significant damage to the festival site and the nearby campsite.

“Our first goal is to ensure the safety of festival-goers, employees and volunteers,” says organizer Matthieu Pigasse. The festival is intended to continue, “but it will not be possible to open the site on Friday.” because of the damage”. Tickets for Thursday and Friday will be refunded.
