Seven clubs with a new coach – Rose on hold

Status: 09.06.2022 07:59 a.m

The last club in the Bundesliga has now found a new coach in FC Augsburg. Some celebrity coaches will have to wait.

Enrico Maassen comes from Borussia Dortmund’s second team and succeeds Markus Weinzierl. This means that all coaching positions at the first division clubs have been filled. Because promoted FC Schalke 04 had already presented a new head coach in Frank Kramer the day before. A total of seven clubs will start the season, which begins on August 5th, under new management.

Rose, Hütter, Labbadia and Kohfeldt waiting

Well-known coaches such as Marco Rose, who last looked after vice-champion Borussia Dortmund, the former Gladbach player Adi Hütter, the former Wolfsburg player Florian Kohfeldt or Bruno Labbadia, who has been traded again and again, are on the waiting list for the time being.

Sebastian Hoeneß had announced a break after leaving TSG 1899 Hoffenheim before he wanted to return to a coaching chair. When and where the renowned football coaches will appear again depends on the course of the first few days of the game and the patience of the sporting directors.

Maassen a newcomer

Maassen, who was born in Wismar in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, is one of the newcomers to the sometimes rough Bundesliga business. He has been the coach of the Dortmund U23s since summer 2020 and led them from the regional league to the 3rd division. The team finished ninth there last season.

As a coach, he has shown that he can also develop young players. Maassen previously worked as a coach at SV Drochtersen/Assel in Lower Saxony and SV Rödinghausen in North Rhine-Westphalia.
