It cannot be seen on Monday afternoon that a violent stabbing took place on the Gildenlaan in Velsen-Noord the night before. Many local residents have been able to sleep through peacefully, but that does not apply to one of the neighbors across from the apartment building where things went wrong.
According to a man who lives in the houses opposite the apartment building and who wishes to remain anonymous, there was a ‘conflict in the relational sphere’. “There was a fight and then things were thrown first, I think with garden furniture. Then I think it got out of hand.”
“Policia, police!”
Throwing things didn’t trigger the neighbor to take a look. A little later, he had every reason to do so: “They yelled ‘policia, policia’, and then I went outside. I saw a woman lying there, half conscious, on the floor. Not in a pool of blood or anything, but you saw that she was injured. Another man was walking around with a bloodied nose.”
“When I got out, a white passenger van with screeching tires drove away. There was also a black Mercedes here in front of the building with a number of people in it. From the moment I got out, the police were there pretty quickly and the ambulance came. then.”
Police confirmed that three people were injured in the altercation. These are two women and a man. Two cars got away and later stopped at the Velsertraverse. The police have arrested seven suspects there.

The fact that there is more unrest in Velsen-Noord is not news to the man our reporter spoke to. The resident agrees that it is not too safe in Velsen-Noord. “Earlier this year there has also been a shooting, less than fifty meters from here.”
‘More and more normal’
Another resident of the apartment building says about the atmosphere in Velsen-Noord: “I’ve been living here for 7 years now and there has actually been a lot of hassle for as long as I know. Something always happens and that is not normal. Yet we will do it. It’s becoming more and more normal. And that’s not just the case here, but actually across the country. When I read what had happened this morning, I wasn’t even surprised.”
