Ajax has reached an official agreement with the Nouri family about compensation. The Amsterdammers pay 7,850,000 euros to the family.
There was already an oral agreement. It was also already known that a possible arbitration case has been settled after years of haggling between the club and the family.
Serious brain injury
Abdelhak Nouri suffered a cardiac arrest on 8 July 2017 during an exhibition match. As a result, Nouri suffered serious and permanent brain damage. Ajax later confessed that the medical care on the football field was not adequate. In addition to the aforementioned amount of money, Ajax will also reimburse all medical costs incurred from the summer of 2017. The club will continue to do this in the future.
“It is good that an agreement has been reached, so that we can close this. We all realize that the suffering for Abdelhak and his loved ones is not over. It remains a very sad situation, we also feel it here at Ajax”, says general manager of Ajax Edwin van der Sar.

Abdelhak Nouri played with number 34. Ajax has decided that an Ajax player will never play with that number again. An Abdelhak Nouri Trophy is also awarded annually. This prize is awarded annually to the greatest talent of the Ajax youth academy.
