Marvel rants are now an interview genre of their own. In any case, almost every Hollywood star seems to be approached on this subject at some point (perhaps because there are fewer and fewer A-leagues who have NOT been in one of the many comic book movies).

Comedy actor Seth Rogen has now given his opinion on the matter. And it is remarkably simple and complex at the same time. Asked about his guest appearance in the superhero series The Boys, Rogen said that there are certainly many filmmakers who are excellent with the material. “But as someone who has no children, I don’t feel addressed,” said the 40-year-old. “It is [alles] kinda geared towards kids. There are times I forget that. As an adult with no kids, I look at one of those movies and I’m like, ‘Oh, this isn’t for me.’

Ironically, Rogen has little to do with Marvel, but has appeared in quite a few adult comic film adaptations (Preacher, Invincible).

Seth Rogen: Marvel isn’t a movie theater

As for the dominance of Marvel and co., the actor believes that there are now two forms of imagery: audiovisual entertainment and cinema. “They still overlap from time to time, but it’s becoming less and less common,” Rogen explained. “And I fear that the financial dominance of one will be used to marginalize and even eclipse the existence of the other.”

In fact, after all the nuanced critiques of Marvel film culture, this might actually be a smashing push. “The Avengers” and consorts – no longer a cinema at all, but only “audiovisual entertainment”? In other words: cartoon chaos for the little ones and those who are small at heart and (art) cinema for the grown-ups. That sounds like a sweet buzz to Quentin Tarantino’s ears.
