FC Bayern was recently said to be interested in Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Manu Koné. But the Munich team apparently have bad cards when it comes to wooing the French U21 international.
Last week, the “Bild” newspaper reported that FC Bayern was looking into signing Manu Koné. Accordingly, those responsible for the German record champions already had loose contact with the management of the central midfielder.
FC Bayern is apparently threatened with competition from England. Liverpool FC are also said to have put out feelers to Koné. The 22-year-old is said to have been about to move to the Premier League in the summer. A sale should generate millions in income. But a sprained knee that he suffered at the U21 European Championships thwarted his plans.
FC Bayern no chance? Gladbach secretly extends with Manu Koné
Koné probably won’t be available cheaply anyway. According to the “Rheinische Post”, Gladbach has extended the Frenchman’s contract, which actually runs until 2025, by one year. The foals made use of a clause that allowed them to extend the working paper without certain conditions. The club confirmed the extension to the daily newspaper.
The Gladbachers now have no pressure to sell Koné either in the coming winter or during the summer break. The negotiating position has also been significantly improved by the new contract.
Koné came to Borussia Mönchengladbach from FC Toulouse in January 2021. The Lower Rhine club spent nine million euros on the transfer. He was loaned back to Toulouse for the second half of the 2021/2022 season.
Koné then played 62 competitive games for Gladbach. He scored four goals and prepared two more goals.
