Set up the Fritzbox on the Telekom DSL connection

Many Telekom customers use their own router on their (V)DSL connection. The Fritzbox from AVM is often used for this. But how is it connected? TECHBOOK explains it step by step.

Finally: The long-awaited package with the router is here. Now just connect the part and off you go. So that your favorite series can be streamed on your laptop soon, we explain in this article how the router connects to the network. Today we will show all Telekom customers step by step how the Fritzbox is connected to the DSL connection.

The individual steps for setting up the Telekom connection refer to the currently valid one Fritz!OSthe operating system of the Fritzbox.

Step 1: Have access data ready

Before activating your connection, Telekom sent you the personal access data consisting of the access number and password by post. You need this now.

Step 2: Connect cables

Take the supplied DSL cable from the Fritzbox box and plug it into the designated connections. Plug one end into the socket labeled “DSL” on the back of the Fritzbox. Connect the other end to the TAE socket in the wall. Here, take the jack marked “F”.

Step 3: Set up Internet access

Now call the address in the browser http://fritz.box which takes you to the Fritzbox user interface. Log in by entering the Fritzbox password in the field provided on the back of the router and clicking on “Login”.

The setup wizard should start right away. If this is not the case, click on “Wizards” in the left menu bar and select “Set up Internet access”. A drop-down menu appears. Use the “Telekom” entry here.

Select “Telekom DSL connection” in the Fritzbox menu. The option then appears there to set up Internet access automatically via Easy Support from Telekom. If this option does not appear, simply activate the appropriate access, click on “Next” and then enter your personal access data in the fields provided. Then click on “Next”.

Now the Fritzbox checks the information and tries to connect to the Internet. The check is complete when the message “Internet connection check was successful” appears on the screen. If no connection is possible, your connection may not yet be activated. Then log in to the Telekom hotline.

Step 4: Set up the telephone connection

First you have to set up the phone numbers in the Fritzbox:

  • In the user interface, select “Telephony” from the left menu.
  • There you click on “Own phone numbers”.
  • Then press “New number”.
  • In the next step you may have to select the option “Internet phone number” before you click on “Next”.
  • A drop-down menu appears on the Fritzbox interface, from which you select “Telekom”.
  • Enter the internet phone number/telephone number in the input field.
  • You may have deactivated Telekom’s own “My Login” service. Then you must now also deactivate the option “Use default setting for login”. Enter your Telekom address in the “Email address” field, i.e. [email protected] and your web password in the “Password” field.
  • Then click on “Next”.

In the next step, assign the phone numbers to your devices:

  • Go back to the user interface and the “Telephony” item in the left menu bar, but this time select the “Telephony Devices” entry.
  • Then click on the pencil icon that appears and edit the entry for the phone. If the device is not listed there, select the option “Set up a new device”. You can then set up the device later with the help of a wizard.
  • When editing the telephone, you then have the option of defining a phone number via a drop-down menu and the “Outgoing calls” item. You don’t have to. If you don’t enter anything there, the Fritzbox simply uses the phone number that is stored under “Own phone numbers and connection settings”.
  • Then decide which phone number the phone or phones should respond to. You can choose from up to ten phone numbers, including the number for outgoing calls.
  • Save your entries by clicking on “Ok”.

Now you have set up your Fritzbox and you can use your Telekom connection.
