At the end of the afternoon, a person was seriously injured after a shooting incident on the cycle path near Maria in Campislaan in Assen. Shortly afterwards, the police arrested five suspects in the area on suspicion of involvement. The police have not ruled out that more people will be arrested.
The incident took place around 5:45 p.m. near the Larch Park, after which several emergency services rushed to that location. Eyewitnesses saw the victim lying on the ground for several minutes, after which ambulance personnel took care of the victim. Not long after, the person was taken to hospital.
The police then searched the area in bulletproof vests and arrested the five. “Investigation must reveal whether the shooter is also among them,” said a police spokesperson.
Meal deliverer Arhasj is scared. “I cycled past here to deliver a meal. I had to cross the grass, because the cycle path was full of young people,” he says, still holding his bicycle. “I’m not even a hundred meters further and I suddenly heard shots. I think: damn, what’s going on here? I look back and see people running away. I couldn’t exactly see what was happening. I didn’t want to get in.” come close.”
Arhasj decides to continue cycling to deliver the pizza. “I cycled back and saw a boy lying on the ground who was bleeding. The police and ambulance had already been called,” he says. Photos he took support his story. “It’s really bad what happened.”
Another local resident can’t wrap his head around what just happened. “It’s crazy for words these days,” he says. “There is a daycare center behind the cycle path and the deer park. I don’t want to think that children may have seen it.”
