Australia’s star soccer player Sam Kerr is in trouble with the justice system in her adopted home of Great Britain. According to information from the London police on Monday evening (March 4th, 2024), Kerr has been charged with a “serious racist offence”.
Australia’s Football Association had previously confirmed investigations by the British authorities against Kerr without providing further details. According to media reports, Kerr is said to have racially abused a police officer.
As the police in London also announced, the incident is said to have occurred at the end of January. Accordingly, the argument between Kerr and the officer was sparked by the police officer’s reaction to her complaint about an allegedly excessive taxi fee.
Cruciate ligament injury – Kerr out of action
At Chelsea, Kerr is a teammate of German players Melanie Leupolz, Sjoeke Nüsken and Ann-Kathrin Berger. Since the beginning of the second half of January, Australia’s 30-year-old national team captain, who is one of the world’s best-paid and best-known players, has not been able to play due to a cruciate ligament injury. Kerr is expected to be out for several more weeks.
