VfL Wolfsburg will probably have to plan long-term without Joakim Maehle. On Thursday, the struggling club announced that the full-back had suffered a serious shoulder injury.
The Wolves did not provide a forecast for downtime. Maehle is missing until further notice. The severity of the injury was determined on Thursday following a training accident on Wednesday, VfL said.
Maehle had recently lost his place in the Wolfsburg formation after five starting eleven appearances and only made short appearances in both the first win since the first matchday last Saturday against HSV (1-0) and in the lost cup game on Tuesday against Kiel (0-1). On the left side of defense, VfL played with Aaron Zehnter. Maehle played more than a dozen of his 73 competitive games for Wolfsburg at right-back.
