Gastón Ávila has been out for a long time due to a torn cruciate ligament. According to Ajax, the 22-year-old defender cannot play for the next nine to twelve months. This accident happened to the Argentinian during training.
Ajax announced the situation of Gastón Ávila in a short statement via social channels. After medical examination it appears that the cruciate ligament of the left knee has been torn. The Argentinian is currently with family in Spain, where he will soon go under the knife.
“Here I can be close to my family,” Ávila says from the southern European country. “And where the right specialists are present for me.”

Ávila came over from Antwerp last summer. The season is not yet very happy for the 22-year-old Argentinian. He was only allowed to kick off four times in the Premier League. His last official appearance for the Amsterdam team was the dramatic elimination in the KNVB Cup, where Ajax lost 3-2 to the amateurs of Hercules.
This weekend Ajax will visit Heracles without Ávila.
