The Gentsesteenweg is closed to all traffic in the early evening. The perimeter is being systematically expanded. All persons and vehicles in the area must leave. People living nearby are also being evacuated.
Harelbeke, Waregem and the Fluvia fire zone also ask to keep all windows and doors closed. Ventilation systems and air conditioners also better turn off people in the area. A be-alert has also been sent.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown. Just before the fire, witnesses heard an explosion.
Currently (6 p.m.) there is no contact with one person, but it is unclear whether that person was present at the time of the fire. It is not yet clear when the evacuees will be able to return to their homes.
