There was a tragic incident on the bobsleigh track in Altenberg: the four-man bobsleigh led by the Swiss Michael Vogt was involved in an accident. One of the occupants was seriously injured.
Before the World Cup race in Altenberg, Saxony, the Swiss four-man bobsleigh pilot led by Michael Vogt suffered a serious accident during a training run. The pusher Sandro Michel was seriously injured. In the meantime, the athlete is said to have been in mortal danger, but is now in a stable condition.
According to reports, the Swiss bobsledder fell on the challenging track. Pusher Michel is said to have fallen out of the bobsleigh. The bobsleigh that had the accident then slipped from the uphill finish line back onto the track and hit Michel.
As the Swiss Sliding association announced, the 27-year-old was flown to the Dresden University Hospital, where he was operated on. He is now said to be in stable condition again. Pilot Vogt himself was also injured and had to be taken to a local hospital to be checked. The other two pushers, Andreas Haas and Dominik Hufschmid, were slightly injured.
The World Cup race is scheduled to take place in Altenberg this weekend.
