On the N368, next to the Wedderstraat, in Vlagtwedde, a motorist collided head-on with a tree at around 11:45 p.m. on Thursday evening.
Police, firefighters and a mobile medic came to the scene to provide first aid.
As far as is known, there were no other occupants.
The road was completely closed overnight for the police investigation.
