A car and a scheduled bus hit each other head-on at De Smeerling (N365) in Onstwedde. Several people were injured and emergency services were present en masse.
For unknown reasons, the driver of the car lost control of the car. The bus and car then hit each other head-on and suffered extensive damage.
“Four people were injured, from both the scheduled bus and the passenger car,” a police spokesperson said. “An investigation is being launched to find out how this could have happened.”
Due to the severity of the accident, the fire brigade has scaled up to provide emergency assistance. The fire brigades of both Vlagtwedde and Nieuwe Pekela have been called. Emergency services have installed screens to better assist the victims.
In addition to the fire brigade and several ambulances, two trauma helicopters were also called. The road is closed.
