Salerno / Udine (dpa) – After several corona cases, the local health authority has prohibited the Italian soccer club US Salernitana from traveling to the Serie A game at Udinese Calcio.
The hosts can now hope to receive three points at the green table, because the game was not canceled by the league.
The Serie A protocol does not provide for an automatic cancellation of the game in the event of two or three corona cases. Udine appeared accordingly to the game. After Salernitana, the club of the former Bayern star Franck Ribéry, did not appear 45 minutes after the original kick-off, the game was canceled.
There was a similar incident in the preseason when SSC Napoli was not allowed to travel to the game at Juventus Turin. The game was initially rated 3-0 for Juventus. After an objection from Naples, the game was rescheduled.
US Salernitana has other concerns. The club is threatened with exclusion from the league. The club only has ten days to find a buyer and avert the exclusion from Serie A during the season. If an offer is received by the club by December 31 that meets the necessary requirements, a further period of 45 days would be granted for the purchase, said a league spokesman.
The league newcomer was promoted last season, but had a problem as a result: At that time, the President of Lazio Rome, Claudio Lotito, was co-owner of Salernitana. So there were two clubs in a league where one person was in a managerial position and that was against the FIGC regulations. The club was then held in trust to find a buyer by the end of the year.
