An away win, two home wins and two draws: this, in a nutshell, was the outcome of the fifth day of the Serie A bowls championship – Raffa’s specialty – which took place on the afternoon of Saturday 18 February.

The big match

In the big match between Punto Inox Vigasio and Possaccio, there was a draw, at the conclusion of a balanced and well-played match, on and off, by both teams. The first half finished 2 – 2. Gianluca Formicone and Christian Andreani split the stakes in the individual match. First set in favor of the Possaccio player, truly impeccable, while, in the second, Andreani paid dearly for the only serious mistake he made. Formicone, although not in the best of conditions, took advantage of it. One set each also in the specialty of the trio. Of note, among the Piedmontese, the excellent performance of Nando Paone, lined up in the second half with Andreani. On the other hand, the opaque performance of captain Roberto Signorini, not always precise in approaching, makes news; but, in any case, he is the technical leader of the Verbanese who puts his heart into it and drags the team along. “For my part – admitted Roberto Signorini himself – there is a bit of regret because I haven’t been able to express myself at my best, especially internally. In the second half, the Venetians found themselves leading 4 to 2, but were unable to capitalize on the advantage, allowing the guests to come back with grit and determination. In the home team, Gianluca “Prof” Monaldi shone. “The result is fair – said coach Massimo Nicolini – but we know we missed some chances to win. A difficult trip to Milan awaits us next Saturday. It will be a tough race. But we are a tough team and we are not afraid of anyone. We will face the Italian champions head on”.

In the Lombard derby, the Codognese of TME 88 defeated the Milanese of MP Filtri Caccialanza by 5 to 3, at the end of an interesting match not only from a technical point of view, but above all from a tactical point of view. The first part of the meeting ended in a draw. One set each both in the individual (protagonists: Pier Paolo “Ray-ban” Cossu and Mirko “Infinito” Savoretti) and in the triplet specialty. The freshmen Flaminio and Giorgione 3Villese tied. Certainly a useful point for guests who remain at the top of the general classification. To record the first victory in the championship for Cofer Metal Marche, able to conquer the field of Nova Inox Mosciano: 5 to 3 the final result in favor of the Castelfidardo team in which Gabriele Marinelli offered an excellent performance. For the Abruzzese, it was a bad setback, precisely because it was suffered within friendly walls.
