Serie A: Inter temporarily top, Juventus now third – Serie A – Football

The defending champions won 4:2 (2:2) against newly promoted FC Empoli after trailing 2-0 at the San Siro Stadium on the third-to-last matchday. This puts Inter one point ahead of city rivals AC Milan, who can improve on Sunday at Hellas Verona (8:45 p.m.).

An own goal from Simone Romagnoli (40′), a brace from Lautaro Martinez (45’/64′) and a late goal from Alexis Sanchez (90’+4′) saved Inter from a slip. Empoli got off to a strong start with goals from Andrea Pinamonti (5th) and Kristjan Asllani (28th). National player Robin Gosens was on the bench for 90 minutes at Inter.

Juventus loses but has the Champions League for sure

Meanwhile, Juventus missed out on third place after a 2-1 (0-0) defeat at Genoa. The Italian record champions led for a long time after a goal by Paulo Dybala (48′), but then Albert Gudmundsson (87′) and Domenico Criscito made a late turn with a penalty kick (90’+6′). Juve had already secured qualification for the Champions League before the game.
