Juventus are being criticized for a surprise home defeat against Sassuolo in Italy. Inter Milan, on the other hand, is rushing from win to win.
The Gazzetta dello Sport described the performance of record champions Juventus Turin in the 2:4 (1:2) defeat at Sassuolo Calcio and the associated first defeat of the season as a “horror show”. “Juve, no excuses! The team seems to have turned back the clock by a year when nothing was working for the record champions”commented the paper.
On Sunday, Inter Milan celebrated their fifth win in their fifth game with a 1-0 (0-0) win at FC Empoli and remain leaders. Federico Dimarco (51st) scored the goal of the day for Inter.
Criticism of goalkeeper Szczesny
Meanwhile, an own goal from Matias Vina (21′) and a goal from Federico Chiesa (78′) were not enough for Juve. Domenico Berardi (41st/90th+5), Armand Lauriente (12th) and Andrea Pinamonti (82nd) were successful for the hosts.
Juve’s goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, in particular, had to accept sharp criticism, receiving the worst grade from Gazzetta due to a few mistakes. “His performance is a masterpiece of awkwardness”criticized the Gazette. “Unacceptable mistakes are combined with poor form. Juve are in danger of sinking into mediocrity”said Tuttosport.
Coach Massimiliano Allegri also got rid of his fat. “To compete with the big boys, he’ll have to come up with something soon”wrote the Corriere dello Sport.
Milan wins after hailstorms
AC Milan, on the other hand, has returned to winning ways in Serie A. A week after the 5-1 debacle in the derby against Inter, Milan beat Hellas Verona 1-0 (1-0) and now have twelve points in their account. The match only started half an hour late due to a heavy hailstorm.
The Portuguese Rafael Leao (8th) scored the winning goal for the Rossoneri. German international Malick Thiaw was also in the Lombards’ starting lineup. “Milan is finally pulling itself together,” wrote Gazzetta.
