Based on the Spanish model
The Supercoppa Italiana will continue to take place in Saudi Arabia in the coming years, based on the Spanish model. This was officially announced by the Italian League Association on Monday. In the Final Four mode, in addition to the champion and cup winner, the runner-up and the second cup finalist will also take part in the competition. Should champions and/or runners-up be in the final of the Coppa Italia, the third and/or fourth will move up. The first edition of the newly designed tournament is scheduled to take place in January 2024. In 2018 and 2019 and last January, the Supercoppa was already held in Saudi Arabia.
“We have decided to accept Arabia’s offer to host four editions of the Supercoppa in six years, starting in 2024,” said Luigi De Siervo, Lega Serie A chief executive. “The next two editions will be held in Saudi Arabia, then there will be one two-year hiatus during which the Supercoppa can be held elsewhere, and then it will return to Arabia for another two years. The next edition will feature four teams and there will also be a friendly match.” This is to be played by a defeated semi-finalist against a local team.

However, the Final Four format decision is not final. “Depending on the obligations arising from the new international calendar, a return to the format with only one final from 2024/25 is possible,” De Siervo made clear. The award of at least four seasons of the competition to Saudi Arabia ensures a rain of money: in Final Four mode, the Lega Serie A will take 23 million euros per edition. Should there be a return to the individual final game, the income would drop to 12 million euros.
