Gosens with Inter Vice-Champion
Inter, with national player Robin Gosens coming on in the 59th minute, also celebrated an unchallenged victory with goals from ex-Bundesliga professional Ivan Perisic (49th) and Joaquin Correa (55th/57th).
The small Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia, home of Sassuolo, was filled with around 21,500 spectators and was firmly in Milan hands. The fans from the metropolis 150 kilometers away had more than 100,000 ticket requests, most of which remained unfulfilled, many Tifosi arrived without tickets.
Almost to be expected, there was some commotion. Before the game, Milan supporters tried to break through a police barricade, the security forces responded with batons.
The turning point came with Pioli
After the 2011 championship, Milan slipped into the mediocrity of Serie A and even missed out on the European Cup for three years. Coach Pioli first brought the red-blacks back into the Champions League and now to the top in Italy – the coach was about to be replaced by Ralf Rangnick in 2020.
