The Mexican initially qualified fourth for the sprint race, but now has to make do with thirteenth place on the grid. Pérez had to come to the stewards afterwards, who ruled that the Mexican had exceeded the track limit during his last run in Q2. That time has decreased, also his recorded times in Q3. As a result, he falls back to thirteenth place.
Verstappen will start from pole position on Saturday (4.30 p.m.) and know Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz right behind him.
