Spanish giant Barcelona renewed a 1-year contract with Sergi Roberto, a defensive player who grew up from its infrastructure and wore the A team jersey for 12 seasons.
Sergi Roberto signed his new contract, which will run until 30 June 2023, together with club president Joan Laporta.
The request of coach Xavi Hernandez was important in keeping 30-year-old Roberto, who had serious injury problems last season and only played in 12 games.
The Spanish media claimed that Roberto, who is one of the highest-paid football players in Barcelona with about 10 million euros per season, will receive a salary of 4-5 million euros in the new contract.
