Chances are, while you were reading the intro to this piece, someone somewhere died of sepsis. Worldwide, on average someone dies every 4 seconds from the disease, which is also known as blood poisoning. This makes it one of the deadliest diseases. Yet sepsis is relatively unknown – which only increases the danger of the disease.
