Dries Wouters doesn’t play a big role at FC Schalke 04. Because of this, sports director Rouven Schröder wants to talk to the Belgian in winter. A separation does not seem to be ruled out.
After almost half a year, Dries Wouters at FC Schalke 04 may already be on the verge of collapse. Since his free transfer from Genk to Gelsenkirchen, the defensive midfielder has only played 205 minutes of competitive play. Most recently, Wouters was used against Hansa Rostock at the end of September.
Consequently, the relationship between the clearer and FC Schalke 04 can confidently be described as a misunderstanding. “We are obviously not satisfied – and I don’t think he will be either. We made more promises,” said S04 sports director Rouven Schröder, referring to Wouters as quoted by the “WAZ”.
The fact that Wouters was absent from time to time due to an ankle injury did not make his time to get used to it any easier. According to Schröder, the 24-year-old had “his games” but had “not really gained a foothold” so far.
FC Schalke 04 promises Wouters transparency
Most recently, the “kicker” reported that a premature separation between FC Schalke 04 and Wouters in winter could not be ruled out. Nevertheless, the reservist should first fly to the training camp in Belek.
“He can show himself there,” said Schröder: “We deal with him very transparently. But Dries is a player who has to prove himself.” Schalke wanted to “fully support and encourage Wouters to bring his qualities to the field,” said Schröder.
Should a suitable offer come, FC Schalke 04 would be ready to talk. Wouter’s working paper is dated for the second division until 2024. With a sale, the clammy royal blue could save salary costs.
