Sep Jansen from Tilburg won the Junior Song Contest together with Jasmijn Torrico from Amersfoort. The duo received twelve points from both the children’s and professional jury on Saturday evening. The public also voted en masse for Sep and Jasmijn and gave them twelve points. The two may represent the Netherlands at the Eurovision Junior Song Contest in Nice later this year.
Sep and Jasmijn received the maximum number of points with the song ‘Holding on to you’. As a reward, they can perform on Sunday, November 26, during the European final in Nice, France.
Crazy
The moment it was announced that the two had won, Sep and Jasmijn went completely crazy and could no longer express themselves. Jasmijn was so happy and emotional that she had some difficulty singing the winning song again, but she quickly recovered with Sep.
The song, which alternates between Dutch and English, is about two friends who wonder whether there might be more to it than friendship. This is not the case in the case of Sep and Jasmijn, they are and will remain just friends, which was also emphasized during the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
‘Not easy’
‘Holding on to you’ is a powerful dance song that is somewhat reminiscent of the earlier hits of DJ and producer David Guetta from France. Sep and Jasmijn danced a lot in both the video clip and during the performance. “This is really good, because it is not that easy to sing like this and dance at the same time,” noted jury member and actor Soy Kroon during the final.
The other jury members were also full of praise for the duo’s performance. Singer MEAU got the feeling that Sep and Jasmijn were getting better during the song, despite dancing a lot. “Very cool, I was blown away and it is really finished.”
Passion
Sep from Tilburg actually enjoys singing. His mother knows no better than that he has been singing all day since he was a toddler. Sep did auditions for musicals such as Mees Kees. He played in theater performances for six months and then registered for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
During the second audition round for the Eurovision Song Contest he met Jasmijn Torrico from Amersfoort. The organization let them sing together: “That was a lot of fun, we had a click.”
Performance
Sep and Jasmijn sang ‘Holding on to you’ together, were selected and have since been in a tight schedule full of rehearsals and preparations. They also performed everywhere, from schools to large stages such as the Tina Festival. “I really enjoyed that, it gave me a lot of energy,” Sep said the week before the final, which he has now won together with Jasmijn.
