Sadio Mane will not participate in the World Cup in Qatar. The star player was injured on November 8 during a match between his club Bayern Munich and Werder Bremen. The fibula injury that Mane sustained appears to be more serious than expected, the Senegal Football Federation wednesday night. The Netherlands will play its first match at the World Cup against Senegal on November 21.
“Unfortunately, an MRI scan showed that progress was not as good as we had hoped,” said Senegalese team doctor Manuel Alfonso, according to the AP news agency. Mané will start a rehabilitation process for his injury in Munich in the coming days.
Mané is Senegal’s star player. In February, the team won the African Championship after a goal from the striker. This summer he was voted the best football player in Africa.
