Yaoundé (AP) – The Senegal national football team has reached the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup. Thanks to goals from Liverpool star Sadio Mané (63rd) and Bamba Dieng (90th + 2), the favorites won 2-0 (0-0) against Cape Verde, who lost two players through red cards.
With a minute’s silence, the players had remembered the dead of the previous day before the kick-off. Eight people died and 38 others were injured in a stampede when hosts Cameroon advanced to the quarter-finals on Monday evening. The panic before the game against Comoros in the Stade d’Olembé in the capital Yaoundé is said to have been triggered because many people did not come to the stadium.
