Yaoundé (dpa) – The national football teams from Morocco and Senegal have reached the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup.
Thanks to goals from Liverpool star Sadio Mané (63′) and Bamba Dieng (90’+2′), Senegal won 2-0 (0-0) against Cape Verde, who lost two players through red cards. Morocco then won against Malawi 2-1 (1-1). After Hellings Frank Mhango (7th) took the lead, Youssef En-Nesyri (45th + 2) and former Dortmund player Achraf Hakimi (70th) scored to win for Morocco.
With a minute’s silence, the players and the spectators had remembered the dead of the previous day before both games. When hosts Cameroon reached the quarter-finals on Monday evening, a mass panic killed eight people and injured 38 others. The panic before the game against Comoros in the Stade d’Olembé in the capital Yaoundé is said to have been triggered because many people did not come to the stadium.
