Apple’s iPhone messenger iMessage offers some special effects. TECHBOOK shows how you can send messages in secret ink or “with force”.
With the iMessage service from Apple you can spice up sent messages even more. Among other things, it is possible to send a text in such a way that it can only be read when you tap on it. The function is called “Secret Ink”. TECHBOOK shows how you can use this and other special effects in iPhone Messenger.
Use iMessage with special effects
You don’t need much to use the tool, just an iPhone with at least iOS 10. To apply effects such as secret ink and the like, proceed as follows:
- Open the message service iMessage via the green and white speech bubble. Then select the chat history in which you want to send the message.
- Write the appropriate text.
- Before you then send the message regularly, press and hold the “Send” buttonuntil the special effects menu opens. On an iPhone with 3D Touch (iPhone 6s and newer), you will also feel haptic feedback.
- Choose the one you want effect out.
- Press the normally “Send” button.
The message is then sent within the chat with the appropriate effect. In the case of the secret ink, this means that the receiving iPhone owner must first tap the text in order to be able to read it. The message also disappears after a few seconds.

More effects on iMessage
Besides the mentioned secret ink, you can do other with your iPhone effects use in iMessage. The process is the same except that you choose a different effect from the Special Effects menu.
Sending a message with “impact” means exactly that. The text bangs once into the field, including haptic feedback. With the “Conspicuous” option, on the other hand, the text shakes once in the image before it can be read normally. For example, you can emphasize the importance of a message. If you select “Inconspicuous”, the message will be smaller once before it can be read normally again.
Other effects are also hidden in the same special effects menu in iMessage under “Background”, the selection option at the top next to “Speech Bubble”. “Send with echo” here means that the word flickers across the display once in multiple versions. “Spotlight” highlights a word with a light effect, while “Balloons” makes colorful balloons fly across the screen. There are also the effects “Confetti”, “Heart”, “Laser Beams”, “Fireworks” and “Raining Sparks”. Once the effect has expired, you can reactivate it at any time using the repeat sign under the text message.

Effects also work on images and emojis
The special effects mentioned, such as the iPhone secret ink, can also be applied to images and emojis on the Apple smartphone. In the case of the ink, you will then see a blank image with animated glitter in the chat.
The effect is even more impressive in this case, as the recipient has to rub their finger across the entire image to see it. Incidentally, the message preview also states that something was “sent with secret ink”. This is not the case for the other effects.
