Good news for drivers: The speed limit of 50 km/h will soon apply again on Leipziger Straße in Mitte and Martin-Luther-Straße in Schöneberg.

The reason for the withdrawal of the 30 km/h speed limit on the roads is the lawsuits filed by two drivers before the Berlin administrative court. In 2018, the Red-Red-Green Senate imposed a speed limit of 30 on 33 road sections covering a total of 20.6 kilometers – to the annoyance of many drivers.

The reason for this was that nitrogen dioxide levels were too high at the time. According to “Tagesspiegel”, significantly fewer pollutants are now being emitted. This would eliminate the reason for the speed limit.

According to the report, the Senate administration declared that it would withdraw the 30 km/h speed limit on Leipziger Straße before the hearing. “The Senate Transport Administration has already planned to repeal a significant part of Leipziger Straße,” says court spokesman Stephan Groscurth.

This requires the Senate to change the air pollution control plan. The same applies to Martin-Luther-Straße.

The administrative court wants to hear a 120-meter-long section of Leipziger Strasse on December 12th.
