Sen (19) champion twice in a row, but racing dream may be on hold for the time being

Racing talent Sen Roodenburg (19) has had two dream years, but his future in motorsport is not certain. De Krommenieër is looking hard for sponsors. To be able to race in a higher class, he has to raise more than 100,000 euros and that is no small feat. Certainly not because sponsors want to be ‘green’.

Sen. Roodenburg did not expect it, but he still raced a class higher last year and won against all expectations. According to him, it was a special season. “I was very happy when I got out of the car. It was a party,” says the 19-year-old, still happy.

The win is widely celebrated. Text continues.

With the win in your pocket, it is normal to move up a class. He now drives in the BMW M2 Cup, but hopes to race GT4 next year. He would then drive at the same time as the DTM weekend and that is worth a lot. “All those teams see you too,” Sen says. “It’s a bigger stage.”

Financial challenge: 100,000 euros sought

However, it is not self-evident to ride a class higher. In addition to talent, a lot of money is also needed. Sen: “Every class higher is more expensive. The cars are simply more expensive.” There is no need for the man at the moment. “I’m busy looking for sponsors.”

According to Sen, that is ‘quite difficult’. “Motorsport is very expensive. Many companies dread those kinds of amounts.” But the kinks are not the only challenge. “Almost all companies want to be green. That doesn’t help either.” He admits that motorsport emits a lot of CO2, but ‘many teams also try to give something back.’ Sen: “For example, Bas Koeten Racing has solar panels on the roof.”

De Krommeniean hopes that more companies will look positively at his sport. “You have to be race-minded to understand it,” he explains. “To sponsor me.” The amount he is trying to raise is over 100,000 euros and he is currently at about 25 percent.

He would prefer to have the amount together before the fireworks go up at the end of this year. Otherwise it will be a year without a championship title. “I could do test days for another year, but then you would miss the competitions. That gets the most attention and is the most fun there is.”

Not a cent for Sen

It is not the case that Sen himself is filling his bank account with this amount. Sen: “I already ride quite high, but I don’t get paid anything. With racing you only really get paid if you ride the very highest.” His teammate has already almost completed the budget, but for Sen it is still exciting whether he can continue his dream. “I hope to grow with him.”
