Semifinals in the DVV Cup: Dresdner SC misses the final

As of: December 15, 2023 10:10 a.m

After 13 wins in a row, there was now the second defeat in a row for the Dresden volleyball players. In the semi-finals of the DVV Cup, the Waibl team had to admit defeat to Stuttgart.

Not only did it say top game, there was also a lot of top game in it. In the semi-finals of the DVV Cup, the volleyball players from Dresdner SC still had to accept a defeat against the women from Allianz MTV Stuttgart with 1:3 (15:25/ 25:23/ 26:28/ 13:25).

Big disappointment for the DSC players Hester Jasper, Jennifer Janiska and Grace Frohling after the end of the exciting game.

Sleepy Dresden start

The Dresden women seemed like that clear defeat against Palmberg-Schwerin They didn’t seem to have quite shaken themselves out of their clothes yet and started with a lot of mistakes and inaccuracies on the offensive. Small mistakes kept creeping into the Saxons’ attacking game: a pass from Frohling, for example, fell just short on the wrong side of the net and Jasper and Straube couldn’t agree on who should take over during a flying ball. It is significant that only 20% of Dresden’s attacks resulted in points, while Stuttgart had twice the success rate in the first set.

Crime sentences two and three

In the second average, the Waibl women visibly stabilized in front of the 2,233 spectators and ensured that the game picked up speed. With substitute Larissa Winter, the DSC took the lead, which was repeatedly in danger, but was ultimately able to reach the goal at 25:23, making it 1:1 after sets.

Dresden’s Sarah Straube and Dresden’s Grace Frohling lose the ball.

The teams seemed to have taken a liking to it and continued to engage in wild exchanges of blows in the third period, with sometimes never-ending rallies. After countless lead changes, the DSC women failed to take advantage of one of the two set points and ultimately lost quite unluckily with 26:28.

After that, the air was a little out and the momentum was clearly on the side of the Stuttgart team with their coach Konstantin Bitter, who had already been an assistant coach under Alexander Waibl in Dresden. In the end, the Dresden women were unable to counter the attacking power of Krystal Rivers and Co. and had to accept the 13:25 and thus 1:3.

Final in Mannheim

While the women of Dresdner SC will be playing against fourth-placed Potsdam in the Bundesliga on Saturday, the final of the DVV Cup is still a while away. On March 3rd, the women from Allianz MTV Stutttgart will also meet Potsdam in Mannheim, who were able to book the final ticket with a 3-0 win against Vilsbiburg that evening.
