Sellingen and Stadskanaal cannot captivate the public

If you play a match where it all doesn’t work out, you have to make sure you don’t lose. Sellingen coach Geert Aalderink strongly agreed. “It was a bad game, where a lot went wrong. We had one big chance right before the break. He had gotten into it. But on the other hand, I think, Stadskanaal was denied a clean penalty.”

,,Then I think a draw is the right result and you have to be satisfied with that.” The chance Aalderink referred to was for Bjorn De Roo. He received the ball seconds before the half-time signal, completely detached, less than ten meters from keeper Royce Geerlings’ goal.

Bumbling for the target

To the dismay of the home team, the midfielder’s effort disappeared just wide of the goal. Not much more happened for either goal. At Stadskanaal, captain Jeffrey Bakker, who was well guarded by Dennis Kuiper, was not part of the piece.

While on the other hand Ian de Vrieze and Arjan Heeres in the front couldn’t do anything either. Stadskanaal had one opportunity in the opening half, when Bakker was too fast for his direct opponent and played on Sten Vos.

Only Vos couldn’t get the ball under control, so he had to hit with the left and missed Marnick Klamer’s goal by a wide margin. For Sellingen, De Vrieze seemed to get the chance to open the score after half an hour of play, but he saw his shot blocked by Peter van Nieff. The home team could become dangerous because Maik Tolner had let himself be trumped just before his own penalty area.

‘It wasn’t good’

Jordy Nijgh’s team occasionally operated lightly anyway by walking with the ball in their own half or setting up very difficult combinations. Sellingen threw the ball forward a lot faster. But both versions almost only resulted in a lot of ball loss.

Nijgh agreed with Aalderink’s words about the level of the competition. “It wasn’t good. We tried to pass the ball around more, while Sellingen played a bit more opportunistic, but little went well.”

The sliding on the legs of Stadskanaal midfielder Julian Buist did not seem that, immediately after the break. While everyone was waiting for referee Drost’s whistle and the subsequent penalty kick, the referee let play continue.

The excitement quickly subsided and the crowd looked more and more at the clock to see if the match was over. And meanwhile spoke of a game of summer evening football or a tennis match, when the ball went up and down between the two defense lines.

While Sellingen can play the last games without pressure, Stadskanaal still needs a few points to play safely. Nijgh: ,,I think we still have to get four or five points. In addition, we are still participating for the period.”
