Health problems are slowing Selina Grotian down. The Bavarian is not the first German biathlete to have to take a break shortly after the start of the season.

The next setback for the German biathletes is not long in coming: after Franziska Preuß, Selina Grotian also has to take a break. Both are out early in the Olympic season for health reasons. While Preuß had already missed the sprint, Grotian called in sick on the day of the pursuit race.

The 21-year-old is showing symptoms of infection and “unfortunately is not fit to start today,” said German team doctor Jan Wüstenfeld before the pursuit race in the afternoon: “The medical team will now give her the best possible support so that Selina can compete again in Hochfilzen after regeneration.”

The World Cup in Hochfilzen, Austria starts next Friday. It remains to be seen whether Franziska Preuß will be able to work again by then. The 31-year-old had to miss both the sprint and the pursuit in Sweden due to a cold.
