From Monday 11 April, the self-test will be the starting point to determine whether someone is infected with the Coronavirus. It is no longer necessary to have this confirmed by the GGD after a positive self-test. A GGD test remains possible for specific groups – for example people who work in healthcare or who cannot use a self-test. A GGD test is also possible to obtain a recovery certificate. Such proof may be necessary for international travel or if the corona ticket becomes necessary again in the event of a revival.

Self-tests are reliable for testing complaints, are widely available and provide quick results. In addition, a advice available to help people if they or someone close to them gets a positive test result.

More personal responsibility

With the use of self-tests, more responsibility lies with the people themselves. It is still very important to go into isolation with a positive self-test. This prevents other people from being infected. The advice people now receive from the GGD about the virus and contamination can online being consulted. The current source and contact investigation will therefore be discontinued.

Monitoring the virus

Now that testing at the GGD is no longer the starting point, the Coronavirus will be monitored in a different way. Through the sewage, samples and on the basis of hospital admissions and the situation in nursing homes, we closely monitor how the virus spreads and whether new variants arise.
