Sabitzer & Laimer as positive examples
Nicolas Seiwald is the 20th player to switch from Austria’s Red Bull Salzburg to RasenBallsport Leipzig in Germany. The 21-year-old midfielder comes to the 2023/24 season and has a contract until June 30, 2028. The fact that the “Red Bulls” keep using their sister club is met with criticism from fans and observers. Leipzig’s new sports boss Max Eberl had once reprimanded this transfer strategy, said as a Gladbach manager in 2016 “Focus” interview: “What bothers me about RB is this pushing of players from Salzburg to Leipzig and from Leipzig to Salzburg. That has a stale aftertaste for me because they basically have two squads.
On Monday, offensive player Emil Forsberg, who has been with the Saxons since January 2015, presented his view of the criticism of the many transfers between the clubs: “I can definitely understand that, but I’m not worried about it. We find good players there and bring them here,” explained the 31-year-old in the “ran Bundesliga web show”. “I now have to learn more Austrian expressions because more and more terms like ‘Grüß Gott’ are being used. They’re top players and they want to join us, even though they probably have alternatives. They want to join us because they know that we do a lot of things right.
With Seiwald: These players switched from Red Bull Salzburg to RB Leipzig
The Swede gave two positive examples: “You saw the development with Marcel Sabitzer and Konrad Laimer. Many players have developed well here. Of course that drives other players on.” Eberl, he believes, “also understood that these are really good players and wants to get them too”. RB Salzburg confirmed that Leipzig pulled the exit clause from Seiwald, which was originally anchored in the contract until 2026 and was reportedly around 20 million euros in line with the market value. In the list of Salzburg’s most expensive departures, he ranks ninth together with Erling Haaland. Leipzig has so far spent seven times more money on a new signing.

RB Leipzig: Forsberg can imagine a career as a coach
Forsberg, under contract until 2025 and in second place among the record players of the “Red Bulls”, does not want to look too far into the sporting future. “I want to stay as long as I can. The club and I get along very well. We play great football and have a great team. Leipzig is a cool city. At the moment I’m not worried. We’ll look further in 2025, but at the moment I just want to live in the here and now,” says the veteran, who can imagine a career as a coach. “Why not? I’m also very interested in tactics and the topic drives me. Just take a look. I’m currently an active footballer and I have to concentrate on that.”
